Dalek Party at Uncle Jeff and Tracy's house

My brother and his wife had us over for a bbq this past weekend for food and sweets.

My brother is becoming quite a grill king.

My sister-in-law watches Dr. Who and had a Dalek cake designed for the party from her favorite place (Whipt Creme). Whipt Creme did a great job on the cake, it was HUGE and my camera did a great job at picking up the gold color of the frosting.

My brother and sister-in-law are so good to the kids, they got every kid their own balloon from the party store. So, Nathan got Thomas the Train (of course...)

Autumn got a Strawberry Shortcake balloon (my favorite toy as a child)

Then there was also an Elmo and Dora balloon for two other kids that were at the party (Tracy's sister Amy's kids)

The balloons were a huge hit at the party, there was even an Elmo parade where the kids ran in circles around the house holding the Elmo balloon...

While the kids played with the balloons, the adults played with the cake... which, was a bit of a challenge to disassemble. of course, some pieces were inedible such as the piece that looked like a toilet plunger...

Here is one last photo of the kids with their balloons

Playdate at Deer Creek park (aka as Rocket Park) in Maplewood

Today I met my coworker and her kids for our second playdate (remember, we went to the Museum of Transport back in August) at the Rocket park. Cami has taken her kids to Rocket park in the past, but this was Nathan's first time at the park. Oh, he LOVED it... I know he is excited when he runs with sort of a dance, because he can hardly keep the excitment inside himself. He ran this way after climbing into the rocket and going down the enormously long slide, and, lets just say, he went down that slide again and again...

This is a picture of the playground and the rocket ship. This picture really doesn't do justice, as you cannot tell how tall this rocket is and how huge this playground area really is...

Jacob leads the way up into the rocket and Nathan follows behind him

Here Nathan is standing out on a lookout area from inside the rocket

Nathan's first time down the rocket slide... you can see my coworker Cami standing next to the slide

Nathan reallllllly enjoyed this rocket park... I think it is officially his favorite park...

Jacob and Nathan had fun spinning the wheels

I could not believe Nathan could climb this, but he did it very carefully several times.

There was so much to do at the park other then just the rocket area... they even had a solar car with real rubber tires

They had this freakishly large baby swing, that even Cami could sit in! lol! I put Autumn in it for a bit but the sun was right in her eyes so I took her out.

Jacob's favorite thing at the park was the scooper seat, which was even more fun because there was a huge puddle of water. Boy did both the boys get dirty...

After lots of playing, we finally convinced the boys it was time to eat... did I mention how dirty Nathan got? heheheh!!! Nathan lives on chicken nuggets and Cami told me that Lunchables has a chicken nugget meal, so of course I brought that in a cooler for Nathan to eat. I thought maybe he wouldn't eat the nuggets cold, but he sure did!!

Autumn enjoyed the fruit salad that I made... I also shared a turkey sandwich with her. Cami made us two different kinds of cookies- chocolate chip and then praline cream cookies.

This is the only picture of Bonnie that I got

Jacob gave Nathan a hug goodbye. Aw!

Professional Halloween Photos

This morning was a morning that I have been dreading for weeks, because, (1) Miss Autumn hates having her picture taken in a studio (stranger anxiety!) and (2) Miss Autumn hates her pumpkin fairy costume that I selected for her.

Why did I decide to make her a pumpkin fairy? (1) I love Gymboree's costumes and (2) Nathan was a pumpkin for his first Halloween, so I thought it'd be too stinkin' cute to make Autumn a pumpkin for her first Halloween, too!

So, this morning we had the FIRST time slot at 9:00 a.m. at JCPenney's, and I had Autumn dressed in her costume in the carseat so that I wouldn't have to put the thing on her there. This was good because it gave her time to vent about having the costume on that she hates... I know, poor girl... plus, I have been putting this costume on her every day since I got it, so she is learning to 'tolerate' it.

Well... we had a WONDERFUL photographer, and she first took photos of Nathan so that Autumn could get used to her surroundings. Then, she took pictures of Nathan and Autumn together so that Autumn was not alone. Also, Autumn was on top of my legs and I was right there next to her, but you can't see me! heheh! So, SCORE!!! We got GREAT pictures... and, I am so happy that I can throw the freakin' costume in the closet until Halloween now! :o)-

Thomas the Train is Nathan's favorite toy right now, so of course he will be Thomas for Halloween.

Nathan chuggin' along...

Look closely and you'll see Nathan's little Thomas train on top of the pumpkin... SO cute! I love this picture!

Look at that BIG smile!

And, the one picture that MADE MY DAY! A smiling pumpkin fairy! Thank you, Autumn!!

Of course, she didn't smile the entire time... heheh.

Another Autumn shot that shows more of her costume

And, SCORE again!! Both kids are smiling in this shot of them together... oh, did I go home as one proud Mama!

Autumn's 10 month Birthday!

Where has time gone? I cannot believe in two more months, we will be singing Happy Birthday to Little Miss Auttie. Autumn is really starting to unveil her personality to us and boy does it have some spunk to it! I thought for sure Autumn would have been walking by now as she has been crawling since 8 months, but she is getting along just fine and is starting to stand up on her own without holding onto anything. She loves plugs and cords, which is not good, but what is funny is my brother used to love plugs and cords as a child. This girl is long and lean but she can out eat her brother and LOVES food. Do not take her plate away or you will have her in hysterics, yes, even if the plate is empty, DO not take it away as she is hoping there is more to come. Lately, Autumn loves to crawl to the front door and then stands up to wave bye-bye to Grandma and pa with Nathan when they leave after Mommy gets home from work. Autumn has a love and hate relationship with her brother in that she always wants his toys or wants to see what he is up to, but Nathan does not like to share and will slam the door shut on the Peak a Boo tent and say 'ITS CLOSED' (I think because we tell him the train store is closed when he asks to go there a million times a day! haha!) and he also loves to turn the switch to OFF on any toy she grabs. Poor Autumn, but seriously, this reminds me of what my brother used to do to me, so I seceretly hope she learns quickly to stand up to her big brother! Hee, hee!!

And, Autumn's latest development...

not surprising to me in the least...

Autumn is using a spoon! Seriously, this girl loves to eat... and if a spoon helps her pile food in her mouth faster then Mommy can- then give her the spoon! She is eating Grandma's mashed potatoes.

Nathan eating one of Autumn's toys while he SHOULD have been eating dinner... SIGH... 3 year olds!!

Red Chicken Chili with Cornbread Muffies

We had a chili day last year at my work, and my coworker's husband made the most AMAZING chicken chili that I have ever had... it hit the spot on this rainy Sunday.

Ingredients (the American Ale is missing)

Recipe called for 1/4 cup of mushrooms, but, heck, I added the entire bag!

Rinse and drain the red beans

Add a jar of chipotle salsa

Add a small can of tomato sauce

Add shredded chicken - what I did was I boiled the chicken in hot water for 40 minutes so that it was tender enough to shred with a fork before adding it to the chili pot

Cheese! Also add sour cream (not pictured)

The good stuff... only 6 oz!

Milk

Garlic

Chili powder

Cumin

Paprika

Salt

Pepper

Take 2 tablespoons of flour and mix with just enough hot water to make a paste (more pasty then it is pictured here), then add to chili pot

And, look what Miss Autumn was up to while I was getting everything in the pot? Heheh!

Simmer for 1 hour on the stove top.

Meanwhile, make some corn bread muffies (added 1/2 a can of sweet corn for added delish-ness)

Still waiting... as the kids trample me! heheh!

Ok, shoot... I forgot to take a picture of the FINAL and end result of the chili- but, ohhh... it was SO good!! Maybe that is why I forgot to snap a picture? Usually chicken chili is in a white sauce but this chili is in a red sauce. SO good! So, instead of a picture of the chili, here is a cute photo of my son!

Here is the recipe:

Red Chicken Chili

1 bag sliced white mushrooms
1 can (15.5 oz) light red kidney beans, rinse and drain
1 16 oz jar chipotle salsa
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
3 chicken breasts, boiled and shredded
1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup sour cream
6 oz American ale beer
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons minced garlic (not dried)
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2 tablespoons flour

Boil chicken breasts in water for 40 minutes, shred with fork.

Combine all ingredients except flour. Mix flour with just enough hot water to make a paste. Add to ingredients. Bring to a simmer and continue for 1 hour. Cool for 15 minutes. Top with extra cheese and sour cream.
