Summer Recap

Since, it is still officially 'summer' I thought I would sneak in my Summer Recap post before its too late. :o)-

Summer, to me is a time to play outside on the extra long days, to live a little more carefree, a time to escape the office and to use up lots of my vacation days, a time to be lazy at the pool, sandals and pedicures, getting away for a family vacation, enjoying the ripe tomatoes in my garden, walks in the park... yet, none of this stopped this from becoming the summer where Autumn has literally grown up before my own eyes! Its amazing how much more of a baby she still was to me at the beginning of this summer, and now she is really becoming more and more independent and self-willing each and every day! Nathan, is becoming such a little man and amazes me with his perception of life through his 4 year old eyes. :)

Here is a recap of our summer:

Nathan learned how to ride a bike

Nathan went to Vacation Bible School for the first time

Nathan went to camp two days a week at school. Mondays were water play days, and Wednesdays were museum days

Nathan particpated in the Little Gym Sports Skills class, and Autumn took her first Little Gym class

Both kids completed the Library Reading Program

I finished the 5K Jokers Wild Run in Westport

Did some fun things around town with the kids: Busch Stadium tour, visited Powder Valley Conservation Nature Center, Lowes Build to Grow with Nathan, swimming, Magic House, bird concert at World Bird Sanctuary, zoo, parks, etc.

Took the kids to see the mountains in Colorado. Lunch with Janna :o)-

Autumn starting to sleep later (hey, I had to add this in! Its a BIG deal! lol!)

Goodbye summer, and welcome fall. Well, not just yet, but I do love fall :o)- This fall Nathan started preschool 4, I am running in the GO! St. Louis 10K Halloween 10K (gosh, I hope I am ready for it when it gets here!), planning to take the kids to the circus, apple picking for the first time... and lots more! Also, I just signed up for Mondo Beyondo, which is an online class that helps you build upon your dreams, to rest more and learn to play. I will write more on Mondo Beyondo later. :o)-

Also, this fall Nathan will be playing on a soccer team for the first time, which should be really fun! I asked him if he wanted to play on the soccer team and he said, "Yes, DEFINITELY! I love soccer!" lol!

I also signed up as a Room Mother at Nathan's school, and I have been put in charge as the lead party planner for all of the preschool 4 parties. I think there is 5 parties total, so wish me luck with the first party... which is my favorite holiday, HALLOWEEN!!! I'm not exactly sure how much work I have gotten myself into, but I am excited to be able to get to know Nathan's teacher and the other Mom's and Nathan's classmates better this year. Should be lots of fun!

Nathan is also signed up for Sunday school, which starts in a couple of weeks. They are doing it a little differently this year, where the kids will be shuffled into three different rooms during the hour... craft time, music time and bible study/snack time.

Lastly, I mentioned earlier I am trying to spend a little more one on one time with Nathan. This week we are going to Family Night at the library and there is a movie at the playground coming up at his school later this month. Its nice that Nathan is finally getting old enough to where he can stay up a little later some nights... I must say though, around 8:30-9pm he is a walking zombie! lol!! He is usually in bed by 8pm most nights.

Library Reading Night at the Magic House

Nathan and Autumn both completed the Library Reading Program this summer, and one of the rewards for Nathan was a free night at the Magic House. I have been planning some evening activities for myself and Nathan so we can have some Mommy and Nathan time together. Its been a lot of fun, and it is a special treat for Nathan to be able to stay out a little past bed time.

This was Nathan's third time to the Magic House, and... I have figured out what Nathan's favorites are in the house. First favorite: water play! Here he is with all of the blue boats.

Second favorite: Lego Gravity Slide. This is where the kids build cars, trucks, planes, etc. with the smaller legos, and they can race them down the slide to see whose goes down the quickest.

Third favorite: life size car! Nathan told me he can't wait until he is 16 and can have his first car. Oh. Dear.

Fourth favorite, and Nathan's FAVORITE part of the Magic House. The fishing pond! The kids catch a fish with a magentic fishing rod, then they take it across the room and dump it into the pond, and they can watch it go all the way along the creek into the lake. Very, very neat.

Last time I went to the Magic House, I took both kids with me on Halloween last year. It was pretty hectic keeping tabs on both of them by myself, so it was fun just to go with Nathan. However, I did think about Autumn the entire time and how I should take her sometime real soon. She would really love this doll house. :o)-

Bird Concert at World Bird Sanctuary

Thursday night, I went to the Bird Concert at the World Bird Sanctuary in Valley Park with Mehlville Moms Club. Its an outdoor concert, that involves birds that fly over you! It was a beautiful late summer day and the first band played a lot of childrens music...

I told one of my coworkers about the concert, and she met me up there with her daughter Emily.

The concert did not only involve birds... but, it included SNAKES. Check out this huge yellow snake! Eek! Jill and I were not happy to see snakes, but the kids were!

Then, during the music... we saw this ugly Do-Do bird come out! Heheh! It was sooo funny, Nathan was dancing, but as soon as the Do-Do bird came out, he stopped and just stared at it with caution. LOL!

Here is one of the birds taking off above our heads

There was an intermission, and they brought out this box with dollar bills in it with a bird on top. Nathan handed the bird his dollar bill, and it put it inside the box. It was quite a trick!

Lots of dancing...

When the second band came on, they played adult music instead of childrens tunes. I knew Nathan was ready to head home when he covered his ears to a Beatles song. LOL! He was so tired from all of the dancing that he fell asleep in the car on the way home. Unfortunately, this is the last concert of the summer, but they have them every Thursday night normally... Nathan told me he wants to go back with 'that girl' again next time! heheh.

Wordless Wednesday

(Psst. Psst. Target has really cool blow up Dino's in their Dollar Spot. Nathan has three of them. Somehow one got into the auditorium at work!)

Uncle Jeff's Birthday Party

We went over to Uncle Jeff and Aunt Tracy's house for a birthday celebration for Jeff. Of course, they had another cute Whipt Cream cake on the table that was just begging for me to take its picture. Jeff's company logo is a Neuron, so of course there was a cute little neuron on the cake.

Jeff and Tracy next to the fabulous cake

I just cannot believe Jeff is 39 this year... Unreal. 39 and holding :)

Miss Autumn is really on the go these days. She was in love with Jeff's stairs and the light switches by the stairs. Sigh... Here we all are on the stairs, except... Autumn isn't looking at the camera. Isn't that how it always goes?

Autumn walking around with the balloons that Jeff/Tracy got her and Nathan. So cute!

Jeff and Tracy even had a pinata at the party for Nathan and Autumn. They both (including Auttie) had quite some strength! Nathan did get the pinata open with a good swing and then he dumped out the contents...

LOTS and lots of whistles. And, candy! Thanks for the fun party Jeff and Tracy!

Blue Silly Putty

I have one last blog post to add in from Nathan's camp days from the summer. He came home with a bag of blue homemade silly putty from when the Science Center came to visit them at camp. He was so proud of it that he wanted me to take a picture of him with the blue silly putty AND all of his blue Pixar cars. Can you tell he has a lot of Pixar cars?

This silly putty is quite... sticky and wet. Not the regular dry and rubbery stuff. I really am curious how silly putty is made now... I may have to do a silly putty day with the kids, just so I can see how its made :o)-

Lastly, here is Nathan with his shirt that finally fits him! My friend Becky got him this shirt at my baby shower for Nathan! Its a 4T and FINALLY fits him! I think she got it at Hot Topic when they still carried kids clothing. Too funny!!!

Nathan's First Day of Preschool 4

Today, Nathan started his second round of preschool. He wanted to wear his googly-eye shirt and I must say it matches rather nicely with his new blue and orange Spongebob backpack! Lol! This is a picture of his cute little sly smile at our house before we left for school.

Going up the steps to the preschool room... school was a madhouse, being the first day and all. Of course, its funny because you would never have guessed by this picture!

Of course, another picture of Nathan next to his cubby...

Oh! Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? SpongeBob SquarePants! Absorbent and yellow and porous is he! SpongeBob SquarePants!

Nathan wanted to play trains as soon as he came into the classroom. After school I asked him how his day was and he told me he played with his friend Caroline. He told me she was very nice, however, she is a giiirll (and he wrinkled up his nose). Lol!! Nathan is going to preschool M-W-F from 8:15-11:15am, last year he only went two days a week. I found out that this year they will be going on field trips, and the first field trip is to the post office. Ohhh, boy! I cannot believe next year he will be in kindergarten!

Autumn's First Pedicure

So, my Mom has been giving me trouble about not giving Auttie her first pedicure yet. :o)- She even sent home a bottle of hot pink nail polish to encourage me to pretty up Autumn's little toes.

So, of course... Autumn wanted to see this little bottle of pink. She knew right away it was for her cute little toes.

I even got a cute smile for the camera with her polish in hand!

Autumn was very good for her little pedicure. She even let Mommy take brag pictures afterwards. Aren't her toes adorable?

I think pink is definitely her color! We didn't do her fingers yet, I'll wait till she is a little older... that could get messy! ;o)-

Last day in Colorado Springs... and, it was a busy one! Cograil to Pikes Peak, The Airplane Restaurant and The Airforce Academy

When we started to plan our trip to Colorado, a lot of people suggested taking the cograil train up to Pikes Peak. I was a little concerned, because it is 1 1/2 hours up, and back down again... that is a long time for Little Miss to sit still. Luckily, BOTH kids had halos above their heads after the trip! Here they are before we got onboard!

Have you ever seen so many humming birds eating at a feeder at one time? I was amazed!

On the way up the mountain, there were a lot of neat sites... we viewed a waterfall from above (not below), a residential house 60 miles away from town (and 17 miles away from their own mailbox!), lakes, etc. So beautiful! This photo shows a 'park' which is a flat area in the mountains.

Beautiful lake hidden in the mountains

Once we got to the top of Pikes Peak, we were at an elevation of 14,110 feet. It was so frigid at the top, the temperature was 35 with a windshield of 28! It was windy, too, the wind just whipped through you and I felt like I needed googles because dust kept blowing into my eyes. Oh, but the view was worth it!

View of our train from the top. There is also a little store at the top of Pikes Peak with some of the best doughnuts I've ever had... and, of course I had some hot chocolate!

A couple of views from the top

Isn't this a little frightening? The end of the cograil!

After the cograil, it was lunch time... so we decided to head over to The Airplane Restaurant. I think this may have been Nathan's FAVORITE part of the trip, because he keeps asking to go back there! Wait, no... I think the tricycles at the cottage were his favorite part of the trip, then this airplane restaurant. :o)

Here is the terminal part of the restaurant, and you can see the wing and part of the body of the plane that we would sit inside to eat.

Here is a view of the tables from inside the plane

So, of course while waiting for our food, Nathan wanted to explore the cockpit.

It didn't take long for Sissy to follow in Big Bro's footsteps

Lots and lots of controls

Sissy playing pilot

Then, after The Airplane Restaurant, we decided to head on over to the Airforce Academy for a quick view of the Cadet Chapel. It was neat, on our drive to the Visitor's Center, they had stops along the way and I got a great picture of the academy.

They have a track, soccer fields, football, etc... you name it, they have it :o)-

This is one of the halls

It was neat watching the everyday life at the academy, we heard the marching band, saw them lining up in formation, etc.

Not sure what this building is, but I took a picture of it :)

Sculpture

We took a 1/3rd mile nature walk from the Visitors Center to the Cadet Chapel. Here is the front of the chapel.

The reflection of the hard edges of the chapel on the grass

Just some random shots of the chapel. Unfortunately, it was too late in the day so we weren't able to see the chapel from the inside... however, I am just as happy with the outside view. :o) The chapel has different services on different days... I saw they have Protestant Christian, Buddhist Catholic Mass, etc.
