Tower Grove Park Farmer's Market and Lightning Bolt Experience :o)-

So, I had great plans for the kids on Saturday. We were going to get up early and get Nathan's last prize for the library reading program (which we did!), then go get a box of clothes from my friend Janna's Dad's friend (which resulted in us getting lost for an hour AND my cell phone froze up to where I couldn't call or get directions until I figured how to open it and take the battery out and back in. I did find someone that knew the area better to get the clothes for me, though!). Then, I was going to take the kids to Tower Grover park's farmer market, playground and fountains and shallow pool area. WELL, here is the water area. That is the most we got-- a picture!

Once we got there, we did the Farmer's Market first because it was only open for another 30 minutes. We had A LOT of fun going from each area and got a lot of delicious produce and food such as peaches, yellow cherry tomatoes, tomatoes, blackberries, honey sticks, soft pretzels, homemade lemonade and zucchini for zucchini bread I made today. It was so much fun and the kids got a lot of samples such as apples! There was even a Grilled Cheese area where they were experts at grilling the cheese!

Chowing down on the yellow cherry maters.

Then... a storm came out of nowhere. And, it was not a short distance to our car. We all got SOAKED! Which, I had planned for the kids to get drenched in the pool, but not me or my Mom! And, while we were in the car getting ready to leave, a lightning bolt came down SO close to the car! It was LOUD! And, look at the tree it hit inside the playground! Yikes!

More pictures of the tree

My car was only 100 feet away. It was crazy. My Mom got out to take pictures and got a huge strip of the bark that was shredded off the tree for Nathan to take home as a souvenir. So scary!

Janna also sent these nice blocks for Nathan from Pottery Barn Kids. SO AWESOME!

Just had to share some of the cute items... Little Mermaid swimmie!

Another cute outfit

Cutie crocs

Auttie's FAVORITE item in the box. SPARKLY PINK SHOES (that look dressy but are really tennis shoes!)

Autumn's Sunflower

Autumn's sunflower FINALLY came up... Yay! Autumn loves to help me water my potted flowers every day when we get home. It was cute, she was trying to water the actual sunflower itself and not the dirt in the pot. Such a cute age!!!

Beautiful! These were not HUGE sunflowers by any means, but still beautiful!

And, when I first had the kids plant these in the pot, we had too many sunflowers so I moved one of each of theirs into the garden in the yard. Look at how well they are doing, and they are both the same height! I can't wait until they bloom. We have had a lot of fun with the sunflowers.

Bowling Round 3!

We are really enjoying our Kids Bowl Free passes this summer. Its amazing how much better the kids have gotten at bowling by just going one time every month. Last Friday we went with my coworker and her daughter. We had a lot of fun!

Here is Jill and her daughter Emilie. Emilie was afraid I was going to take her ball! She took it back with her to her seat every time after she bowled. It was cute!

Nathan can drive me nuts sometimes. For one, he kept asking me who was winning (he wasn't) and by how many pins, etc., etc. He must have asked me this question at least a bazillion-kamillion times. Then, everytime I wanted to take a picture of Autumn, he had to stick his big smiley face in the way!!! 5 year olds!! Errhhh!!! You can tell he is having a lot of fun!

Nathan is really into bowling and we had never taken him before this summer

Autumn having her doll help her bowl. So sweet!

Autumn's BIG GIRL Bed!

Jeremi had the kids this weekend, so I was a busy getting Autumn's BIG GIRL bed (eeee!!!!) ready for her. It was A LOT of work, because I had to clean and repaint the headboard, which was mine when I was her age. She has all of my old furniture in her room, and I love it! I also got her mattress and had so much fun putting the Dora bedding on it. I am normally a Pottery Barn Kids fan when it comes to kids bedding, but this little girl would love for nothing more then a Dora bed. So, Dora she got! I think it turned out really, really cute! Also, the headboard pulls open and has a SECRET storage area! I am not sure what I will do with the hutch, but for now it hosts ALL of her baby dolls!

And, Autumn's reaction when she got in her Dora bed. BIG, BIG SMILE! Awwwhhh! It made all the hard work so worth it!

First night, a sucess! Within a 30 minutes she did get out of bed TEN times. 4 times to go potty, 3 times begging for Cheese Its (she LOVES Cheese Its- even though I am not a fan of bed time snacks!) and 1 time to ask me to go nighty with her in her Dora bed. Isn't she cute?

Homemade Chocolate Pudding Pops

One of the items on my summer list for the kids and me to do, is to make freeze pops. It has been amazingly HOT outside, so this last weekend was a great weekend to make something cold! I got the recipe for our simple homemade pudding pops from our Family Fun magazine.

This simple recipe consisted of...

Chocolate pudding

LOTS of mixing by two cuties... I highly suggest using a mixer, as hand mixing alone will not get everything mixed up well enough.

Both eager to help me put the pops in the freezer

Enjoying their pudding pops. They REALLY liked them, Nathan told me we need to make these every day! Ha! I did NOT like the popsicle container I got at Target AT ALL, the sticks pulled out or I only got half the popsicle out. Big BOO to that. Can anyone suggest a better container?

Here is the recipe...taken from Family Fun

Chocolate Pudding Pops

With a mixer, blend together 1 package of instant chocolate pudding, 2 cups milk, 1/2 cup cream and 1/2 cup sugar. Pour the mixture into popsicle molds.

Hairy Elephant Cuts

Nathan was due for a haircut, so I took him into my favorite place for them-- Hairy Elephant on Manchester. I really like how they flipped Nathan's hair up in the front of his face, so I got the pomade. Should be fun new look when I have time to do it!

Here is Autumn. She just had a trim, her hair was starting to grow uneven in the back. It looks much more polished! She is so cute to watch, she was sitting in her car just steering the wheel every which way while the stylist cut her hair. She must have thought she was driving to the mall!

My Upcoming Races

I had to take a little break from running earlier this year, but I am diving back into and I am happy with the results. I am not back to where I was, but that is why I have planned some races so I have some goals.

Fleet Feet Rock N Roll 5K - July 24th at 8:00 am

This is going to be a fun race, as it is at the new three thousand seat Chesterfield Central Park Amphitheater, and they will have a live band, and a post-race party/concert complete with breakfast and a beer (may be the earliest I will have ever had a beer! lol!).

Warrior Dash (Old Monroe, MO) - October 15th
This will be my first Warrior Dash, and I will be running it with a couple of friends. Should be a lot of fun if I can handle getting dirty! Ha!

Go! St. Louis Halloween 10K - October 16 at 8:00am

This is a fun run close to Halloween that I did last year, I just need to figure out a simple costume to run in. Last year I was a cat.

Then, I am hoping to train for a 1/2 Marathon next year. After that, I am not sure. :o)-

Nathan's T-Ball Professional Pictures

I finally got Nathan's t-ball pictures today... about time! Or maybe I was overly anxious for them. I think they turned out pretty good, especially since I had to pay before I even saw them! I really hope he gets a team color other then Barney purple next time... two times in a row is enough purple! Heheh!

And, here is the group shot.

Can't believe soccer will be starting in another month and a half...

Ice Cream in a Bag

Last week, on the 4th of July, I had the kids make the ice cream in a bag recipe that was in the Family Fun magazine this month. Here are the kids next to the ingredients, HOWEVER the cornstarch is NOT supposed to be in this photo. SOMEHOW it got staged into the photo. Who would do such a thing?! ;o)- It was really for our mixed berry pie that I made to go with the ice cream in a bag. Yum, yum!

You start with a small sandwich bag that you can seal, and you add sugar, half and half and vanilla.

Then you put salt, and cold ice cubes in the larger bag before placing the smaller bag inside it. This was the kids FAVORITE part, putting the cold ice cubes in their bigger bag. However, they started to fight over the ice cubes (see how serious Nathan looks)... I don't think they realize yet just how many ice cubes are in the freezer! LOL!

Then, shake the bags until the ice cream mixture hardens. This is a LOOOONG 5 minutes. Why is it so long? because the ice is heavy and the kids didn't shake theirs very long- so I had to do their bags! Here is Autumn's attempt at shaking her bag, she threw it down on the table. Heheh. Nathan did his pretty good for awhile until he asked me to take over for him. It is quite a work out, let me tell you!

The result after all that shaking. A bag of vanilla ice cream. Just amazing!

Autumn adding her sprinkles to her bag. I tried to talk them into some Hershey's syrup, but they just wanted sprinkles. I really should have made my own bag!

Final result. Yum, yum! I may have tried a sample from both kids bags.

Here is the recipe:

Ice Cream in a Bag (taken from Family Fun)

Combine 2 tablespoons sugar, 1 cup half and half, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract in a pint-size ziplock bag and seal it tightly. Place 1/2 cup table salt in a gallon-size bag, then fill it halfway with ice cubes. Place the sealed smaller bag inside as well, and seal the larger bag. Shake the bags until the ice cream mixture hardens, about 5 minutes. (Feel the small bag to determine when it's done.) Take the smaller bag out of the larger one, and eat the ice cream right out of the bag. Serves 1.
