Simple and Quick Disney Tie-Dye Shirts

For our Disney trip, I wanted to make some personalized shirts for all of us to wear one day. I really didn't think Brian would want to participate, but he was sad I didn't make him a shirt (wife fail!). :( Unfortunately, I would have made him one if I wouldn't have waited till the last minute to make ours. I guess there is always next time and he does have a Mickey Mouse shirt I got him at Old Navy for our last trip that he can wear (and that he ONLY wears when we are at Disney! ha!).

When I looked on Pinterest for ideas, I saw that for the regular Mickey tie-dyed shirts, you needed to sew a Mickey face and then go around it with a bleach pin afterwards. Bleh, too much work! I was busy getting their Mickey Mail ready, packing for THREE (thank goodness Brian packs himself) and trying to get everything set on the blog before we left... I wanted a SIMPLE tie-dye idea for a shirt!

SO, let me introduce you to a SIMPLE and QUICK Disney Tie-Dye Shirt method:

The supplies were really basic:

  • Sharpie Fine Point Markers
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Rubberbands
  • 1 Large Cup or Bowl
  • 2 Smaller Cups or Bowls
(I landed up using glass Pyrex bowls in two sizes instead of the plastic cups)

First, take the larger bowl and rubber band it onto the shirt. You'll want to do this in the middle of the shirt, so that you have room for the 'Mickey ears' above it.

Draw a Mickey shape and a few dots and lines around it in the center of the space that you have rubber banded. This area that you draw should be no larger than a quarter in size.

Take a dropper and drop several drops of the isopropyl alcohol over the sharpie design. Do this until it bleeds all the way around the circular area that you have rubber banded off.

This is what it will look like once the sharpie has bled all the way around the circle.

Let this area dry. Once dry, remove the bowl and insert some cardboard in the shirt to prevent any bleed through to the back. I had some rectangle cardboard cake boards that I used to prevent bleed through.

Now, take your two smaller bowls and overlap them a little with the bigger circle. Rubber band the shirt to the two smaller bowls. These will be the 'Mickey ears'.

Repeat the same steps you did for the first bowl, such as drawing the Mickey sharpie design and then dropping isopropyl alcohol on it.

Let it dry for 5-10 minutes, then remove the bowls and let the entire shirt dry completely. Turn inside out and put in the dryer to set the colors. Then you can wash it in the regular wash once before you wear it.

This was a fun project, especially since we did different colors for each shirt! I think I like how Nathan's and Autumn's turned out more than my shirt! However, I kind of wanted my shirt to match my comfy melon shorts, so I'd have an excuse to wear them to the park... so, I'm good. :)

I can't wait to wear these fun Mickey shirts on our Disney trip and the best part is the shirt is mostly white (and therefore cool!) and the Mickey faces we tie-dyed on them are such fun, bright colors... YAY! Bring on Disney!

5 Ways to Wear and Style Chambray in the Spring & Summer {Guest Post}

fivewaystowearchambrayHello Carrie's readers, I am Rachel of and I am so happy to be guest posting today while Carrie and her little family enjoy their time soaking up Disneyworld (lucky). I have known Carrie for about a year now "in the blog world" and feel she is one of those bloggers I cannot wait to meet up with and talk with in person about her DIY and fashion projects on her cute little porch filled with most of her DIY decor and creations. While I wish I was more DIY friendly I blog a lot about fashion, faith and inspiration over in my neck of the woods. Would love to meet you! Today I am going to talk about this lovely chambray top and how I have styled it and worn it for the warmer seasons (Spring and Summer) as I am sure I will be wearing this top throughout the year and will revisit my styling of it in the fall and winter seasons as well. I am going to cover 5 ways to wear chambray for these warmer months and give a link back to each outfit as I have worn it in past posts.

1). Chambray top over white pants
Chambray buttoned up and as a top over white pants. I love how crisp and airy this chambray top looks with denim white pants. Add some pops of bold colored blue and the chambray stands out even more. For this particular look I added some edgier accessories to give an unexpected add on to an otherwise sophisticated and polished look. You can check out the original post here

2). Chambray top tied around the waist
When the spring and summer days begin it can be quite chilly outside or perhaps in some indoor facilities so a chambray button up top is my go to cover up for times like these. When it gets hot just tie it around your waist for a fun, cool kid on the block look that almost reminds me of the 90's (remember sweatshirts and over-sized checkered plaid grunge like tops being tied around the waist?). Check out the post here

3). Chambray top belted over a casual Little White Dress
I love a perfect Little White Dress, especially this crochet one so adding a belted chambray top and some cognac and glittered details takes this little white dress to a whole new level. This Little White Dress is now more dressed up casual and definitely perfect for a girls night out or day with family. See original post here.

4). Chambray top buttoned up and tied knot over a bold colored dress
This tied up chambray top will work for probably any dress but here I choose to use a floral one. I choose this floral dress because the chambray actually softens the bold colors and print in the dress. See original post here

5). Chambray top over a pastel striped dress and with a sunhat
I believe this is probably my favorite way of wearing chambray, over a pastel sundress and fun sun hat for not only protection against unwanted rays but for an added chic look. See original post here.

Which of these 5 ways was your favorite? Which have you tried before? How do you style your chambray tops for spring and summer weather?

MM Party Rules

Ready to share what has been motivating you this past week? Link up a recent post of yours, something that motivates you to create or just be awesome! Our goal is for this link up to focus on craft, DIY, & home posts so please try to remember that when linking up.
  • Limit it to three links per week and remember to link directly to your post, not your blog.
  • Do not link stores, giveaways, or other link parties.
  • Be sure to hop around some of the other posts that have been linked up to share the love and get motivated by what others have been up to…because of course, this is Motivational Monday after all.
Each week, your hosts will choose a few posts to feature from the previous week. If you want a chance at being featured, you must follow all of the hosts. By linking up, you agree to let each host share your photo and link back to your site. Link party goes live Sunday 6pm PST and ends Thursday at 5pm PST.

Feel free to grab a Motivational Monday button in the sidebar to put on your own blog if you want to help spread the love!

Patriotic Mantel

Cathy from Vintage, Paint and more... created this vintage patriotic mantel to keep up ALL summer-long for the Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day holidays! How wise is that? I really like her wooden vintage backdrop and the burlap wreath that is hung on it, too. On the chalkboard she plans to write something different for each holiday (i.e.: Holiday, etc.).

Ipsy Review (#7) and Meal Plan Week 66

Just received my Spring into Beauty πŸ’™ Ipsy Glam Bag and it is the BEST one yet! I have always wanted to try Smashbox's Photo Finish Foundation Primer and I received a tube in this Ipsy bag! πŸ‘Œ I also love the it Cosmetics Brow Power penc

Well, this makes month SEVEN of Ipsy for me! I was thinking I would only try Ipsy for 12 months and then I would try a different subscription service. But, I am really enjoying Ipsy so much and the price is reasonable and I may stick with it even after a year. We'll see. It really helps me expand my cosmetic and skincare knowledge about different kinds of products and brands that I did not know about before trying Ipsy.

If you haven't heard about Ipsy before, it is a mail subscription that sends you a new makeup pouch each month along with 5 products to sample. And, the kicker? It is ONLY $10 a month! It is also fun to see what others get, because not everyone gets the same products... you fill out a questionnaire and they base your products off of your answers. Sweet! If you're interested, you can sign up under me, by clicking HERE and I'll earn some points to by myself extra products. Thanks (in advance).

AND, thanks to those of you that did sign up under me, because I am receiving a FULL size lip color this month for all of the points I have earned. Woohoo! I have been waiting to redeem them on something I'd really like... and when I saw this lovely mandarin lip color by Smashbox I grabbed it! I can't wait to get this extra item in my next Ipsy bag!

So are you ready to hear what I received in my Ipsy bag?

IT Cosmetics - Brow Power Universal Eyebrow Pencil

Currently, I use DipBrow on my eyebrows and I love it. However, I have to apply it with a special brush and it does take a little time in the morning. This eyebrow pencil from Ipsy is easy AND quick! Plus, it has a universal shade that works with any eyebrow color! I use this if I want a quick eyebrow fix and if I am going for an evening out, I use my DipBrow! I was disappointed that after only my second use, the brow pencil fell out, though! I think it got stuck to the inside of the cap and when I opened it, it pulled it out. I don't put the cap on all the way now and I put the stick back in and it still works... so, I'm ok with it as long as it doesn't happen again!
I would rate it 4/5 stars.

Smashbox Cosmetics - Photo Finish Foundation Primer
I have been wanting to try this and just never got around the buying it. I don't use a foundation primer currently, but after trying this I need to start. It was especially smooth and silky and really helps my makeup last during the hot and humid summer we are having now in St. Louis!
I would rate it 5/5 stars.

Lavanila Laboratories - Healthy Body Butter in Pure Vanilla
I really, really loved this body butter! I always like to apply a cream on my legs after I shave them in the morning. This was great and smelled wonderfully! The only complaint was the sample was really small, even though the tube looked big... lots of air in the tube! I only got two uses out of it, not enough to determine if I'd want to buy it again.
I would rate it 4/5 stars.

Formula X Nail Color in Power Source

I was excited to get a nail color in a brand I had never tried and a color that I will actually wear! This is the perfect summer coral, I have another coral already in my nail color collection, but it is more of a pinkish coral. It seemed to chip a little easier than the Essie polish I usually wear, but not soon enough that I won't use the bottle up.
I would rate it 4/5 stars.

tre'StiQue Mini Shadow Crayon
I was really excited to receive this mini shadow crayon and I could see this being a perfect eye shadow to keep in your purse and to add on the go by itself or to blend with other eye shadow colors while applying your makeup in the morning or evening. It applied smoothly and the color looked nice with my skin tone.
I would rate it 3/5 stars.

The black Ipsy bag was nice this month and I think I am going to use it on our upcoming Disney trip!

If you don't subscribe to Ipsy, click HERE for my referral link. For $10/month it's a fun way to try new products that are delivered right to your mailbox!

What did you get in your Ipsy Glam bag this month?

Thursday Fashion Files Link Up #19 - Cover Up with Romper, Melon Shorts & JORD Watch

Welcome to Thursday Fashion Files!

Welcome to Thursday Fashion Files with Jill at Doused in Pink and Carrie at Curly Crafty Mom! We are excited to have you here and would love to have you link up one of your latest outfits with us.

We are always looking for Co-Hosts for Thursday Fashion Files. If you haven't signed up to Co-Host, but are interested, sign up by clicking HERE.

I did a little pre-vacation shopping last week while I was also looking for some clothes for Brian for Father's Day. WELL, I tried to limit it to just a few items and was excited when I realized how well these clothes flowed with my new wooden watch by JORD. Recently, I was given opportunity to work with JORD on selecting a watch that would work with my fashion style. I selected their Ely watch, because I wanted a light colored wood. The Ely watch is maple and has a simpler design and face to it, which will work with most of my day-to-day outfits. JORD even has you measure your wrist, so that your watch arrives at the correct size! I have itty bitty wrists, so this was an advantage to me!

I purchased a palm tree print romper from Old Navy and it is layered underneath this cover up! The colors work really well together since the cover up is sheer. I plan to wear this cover up over some clothes this summer AND over my bikini at the beach, of course! What I found out about this outfit, too, is that the palm tree romper looks really cute alone with just these melon colored shorts. I wish I had shared a photo of that, but didn't realize it until after that evening. This cross body fringe bag goes great with the cage sandals I am wearing.

The cover up has a little bit of green in it, so I decided to get out my green bow-tie bracelet which I love... but, my favorite new accessory to this entire outfit is the JORD watch! It looks great without any effort and it is nice to have a piece of jewelry that was hand crafted from natural maple wood.

What I'm Wearing:
Ely Series Wood Watch in Maple - JORD
Embroidered Stripe Cover Up - Old Navy
Palm Romper - Old Navy
Melon Shorts - Old Navy - Old (Similar) (Similar)
Cage Sandals - Old Navy (Similar)
Fringe Cross Body Purse - Old Navy
Green Bow & Initial Bracelets - Charming Charlie (Similar) (Similar)
Renegade Cluster Bracelet - Stella & Dot
Flower Cluster Necklace - Molly Suzanne

Did you know that JORD is a Swedish word and stands for Earth, Soil and Land?

The photo below shows how the Ely watch looked once I opened the box.
You can see it was packaged nicely and the quality craftsmanship really shows.

The creators at JORD wanted to create a timepiece that would be modern, sustainable, efficient and simple.
