Packing for vacation has always been a bit stressful for me. I struggle figuring out what to pack and how much to pack. I typically spend way too much time packing - and end up bringing far more than I need.  I have found that if I am more strategic upfront in my planning and selecting a color theme - packing is less stressful and done in half the time.

Since I am a neutral person when it comes to clothes, I tend to stick with basic blacks and whites, and then add in a couple of pops of color and/or prints. I find this is an easy way of creating a cohesive packing list - and allowing for the most mixing and matching.

From my packing list above, I have put together 12 different outfits.  Below are six looks - and if you head over to my blog, you can check out six more outfit ideas.

4 Summer Trends by A Memory of Us

Hi everyone! My name is Darcy and I blog over at A Memory of Us. I am so excited to be guest posting for Carrie while she is on her vacation! I love reading her blog to see home design and fun DIYs. For those of you who don't know me, I write a life and style blog based out of Kansas City, Missouri. I love traveling, reading (I just finished Girl on the Train and it was AMAZING), going for walks with my husband, and cheering on the Kansas City Royals! As my blog has more of a fashion focus, I thought today I would talk about some of my favorite summer trends. There are so many great trends this season, and it is easy to find pieces that will easily fit with any budget or style.

Trend One: Off the Shoulder / Cold Shoulder Tops and Dresses

summer trends with a memory of us
The cold shoulder trend was one I loved last year. However, I never added any pieces to my wardrobe since I knew I couldn't wear them to work and I like to get as much use out of my wardrobe as possible. Well, since the trend was back again this year I decided it was time to add some of it to my closet, as shown in this post! I love this dress, as it's lightweight and perfect for a date night with heels or a more casual day, like a trip to the farmers market if paired with sandals. (P.S. This dress is still in stock, and you can shop it here.)

Trend Two: Block Heeled Sandals

summer trends with a memory of us
Block sandals are huge this year and I am such a fan. They are incredibly comfortable and give you so much height. (I am only 5'3" so I can use it haha!) Truthfully, I am not a big heels fan at all. I will pretty much always opt for pumps over heels. But these block heeled sandals are a total game changer. The ones you see in this post are available in four colors and I cannot recommend them enough! (For size reference, I normally wear a 6.5 but took a 7 in these.)

Trend Three: Woven / Cork Bags

summer trends with a memory of us
I love how easily switching out your bag can totally change up your look. I think buying a new bag (or any accessory, really) is a great way to transition your wardrobe between seasons without spending a fortune. Woven or cork bags are all over this year, and they give such a spring/summer vibe to your outfit, like mine does in this post. Sadly, my exact bag you see here is sold out but here is the link in case it gets restocked. I also love this one.

Trend Four: Chambray Dress

summer trends with a memory of us
Last year, I decided I wanted to add a chambray dress to my wardrobe. However, I waited too long to start looking for one so all of the ones I liked were sold out. Lucky for me (and you!) they are back this year, and I featured mine in this post. You can find them everywhere and at any price point. I picked up mine for less than $35. I wore it the day after purchasing it, which you know means it is a good buy haha!

Okay, okay. I wouldn't necessarily call this one a trend since this style of top has been around for plenty of time now, but I am majorly obsessed with peplum tops right now. Not kidding, I have added four peplum tops to my wardrobe since probably April! The one you see here is my most recent purchase, but two of the other ones I picked up are included in this post in trends two and three.

What are your favorite trends for summer? I would love if you would head on over to my blog, A Memory of Us, and keep following along to see more of my favorite summer outfits! Thank you Carrie, for having me!

I would love it if you would follow me on GFC or Bloglovin'!

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #ScrubDishCloth #CollectiveBias

I don't know about you, but sometimes I like to make a nice and hearty meal for my family with gooey cheese and lots of noodles. I've been making this Gouda Mac and Cheese for awhile and it is always a huge hit! However, cleaning up the pan that I simmer the cheese sauce in and the casserole dish is never as much fun as eating it... UNTIL I started using Scotch-Brite® Scrubbing Dish Cloths! Now I can quickly clean up the mess and enjoy more time with my family over dinner.

Before I share the recipe with you that I made, I wanted to show how easy clean up was after we were done eating this delicious dish. I had a mess leftover in the casserole dish. But, no worries as I had a Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth on hand to help me clean up this mess. I used it with a little hot water and soap and got the dried up gunk right off of it! Its scrubbing power makes cleaning easy!

This is what the casserole dish looked like after I was done, it is so clean!

Gouda Mac and Cheese
Now I will share with you how to make this delicious Gouda Mac and Cheese.

The ingredients for this mac and cheese are pretty simple and you should have most of them around the house already.

Mac&Cheese3 Mac&Cheese4
Start boiling the noodles. Then you'll need to melt your butter and add the seasonings to it.

Mac&Cheese5 Mac&Cheese6
Stir in the flour until it forms a thick paste. Pour in the milk and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer.

Now, the fun part... you get to layer all of the cheeses! First, spray your square casserole dish. Add the noodles, sauce, American cheese, shredded cheese and gouda cheese. Repeat one more time. Now, it is ready for the oven! See the full directions below.

Gouda Mac and Cheese

Nonstick cooking spray
3 tablespoons of butter
1 teaspoon salt/pepper
8 oz elbow macaroni
3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon mustard powder
3 cups milk
2 oz gouda cheese, shredded
8 slices of American cheese
4 oz cheddar cheese, shredded

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit
2. Boil macaroni noodles
3. Melt butter in a sauce pan. Stir in salt, pepper and mustard powder. Then, stir in flour to form a paste. Stir in milk and bring to a boil. Then, reduce heat and simmer for a few minutes.
4. Spray your casserole dish and place half of the noodles on bottom. Pour half of sauce on top. Layer with 4 slices of American cheese, half of the cheddar cheese and gouda cheese. Repeat. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes. Cover and bake an additional 15 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

5 Tips to Have the Cleanest Sink You've EVER Had!

1. Keep a jar of liquid dish soap on your sink.
2. Pour the liquid soap all over your sink.
3. Use your Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth to scrub all of the dirt and grime off your sink.
4. Use the other side of the Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth to dry off your sink until it shines!
5. Decorate your sink with some fresh flowers and keep a Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth nearby for the next time you need to do a deep clean. I also keep the liquid dish soap in a little glass jar, it looks nice in the kitchen and I don't have to dig under the sink to find it.

Tutorial_Main3 Tutorial_Main4

Here you will see that I used the liquid dish soap to clean my sink. I love having a little jar of the soap out within my reach. I can do this quick clean up with the liquid soap and Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth and have the cleanest sink I've ever had! It just scrubs and doesn't scratch, which is an added bonus!

More information on the Scotch-Brite Scrubbing Dish Cloth:
  • You can wash and reuse it
  • The textured fiber dish cloth features two sides. One side has scrubbing dots for cleaning tough messes and the other side is a high quality fiber dish cloth
  • It won't scratch, just scrubs!

Kitchen Savings Tips #HeftyUltraStrong

I'm excited to share a few tips on Kitchen Savings today. I'll also be sharing how Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags has made changing the trash in my kitchen a lot more enjoyable! Yes, you heard me right... Who knew that changing the trash could be one of those tasks that gives you pleasure! Now, let's get into the Kitchen Savings Tips...

Kitchen Savings Tips

Tip #1
Don't skimp on the trash bag(s) that you use in your kitchen!
Do you have a favorite kitchen garbage bag that you use in the kitchen? Why waste time and money on something that isn't durable? This is why I use Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags for the trash can in my kitchen. Not only are the durable, they smell great! You also can't beat their value!

And, to take this tip even further... don't skimp on your trash can!

We recently purchased a new trash can and it has a sensor on it and will open when you put your hand close to the lid. It is SO nice and keeps germs to a minimum... it also encourages the kids to clean up after themselves, because they love to see it open on its own!

Tip #2
Grow your own herbs!
By growing your own herbs in your kitchen, you will have fresh herbs right under your fingertips! No need to go outside in the heat to cut some, it is easier to water them since they are right in front of you AND think about how much money you save by not buying them at the store.

Tip #3
Meal Plan!
By meal planning each week, you will save money not buying items you already have, you won't eat out as much and you'll enjoy quality time cooking and dining with the family.
This is a close up of our meal plan for this week. I normally give myself a break and don't meal plan on the weekend. Under shopping list I will type in what we will need when I make my grocery list. It is blank right now, because I have already run to the store for the groceries for these meals.

Hefty Ultra Strong Trash Bags

Arm & Hammer odor neutralizers and new, invigorating scents to help keep odors at bay. It is so nice when you can open your trash can and smell citrus or lavender and sweet vanilla.  Plus, there is a scent-free option!

Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags are an outstanding quality at a new, lower price. The active tear resistant technology is for better puncture resistance. They are available at Walmart or Target.
