The Creative Corner Link Up Party & Weekly Recap - 07/31/16

Welcome back to our DIY/Craft Link Up Party! Thank you for stopping by every week!

Today I am going to do something a little different from my usual feature and weekly recap! Since I have gotten back from Italy, I've had a hard time catching up on everything with the blog and at home (back to school is in full mode around here!). I have several posts scheduled for next week, but I still wanted to squeeze in my August Goals (and a brief report on how I did on my July Goals). SO, today I'm going to do that so that I can get this post out at the start of August and not overwhelm you (or myself) with 2 posts on the same day this week. :)

Untitled
I have met ALL of my goals every month this year, except in July when we got back from one vacation and then left for Italy... whew, everything sort of got unorganized. So, I'm picking up the pieces and starting over in August!

More goals for August:

1. Tidy Up the Backyard - there are some vines growing that SHOULDN'T be, I need to clean up our clematis and there are some flowers in pots that are dead and need to be repotted again with something later this fall (such as mums!). I just need to take some time on a cooler day and enjoy some time out in the garden. Mostly, it is ok... but, there are a few spots that are eyes sores for me right now.

2. Eat More Veggies at Lunch - my friend Katie recently SnapChatted a photo of her lunch and it was just a plate full of delicious looking veggies. Now, I don't think I could eat just that for lunch and get by until dinner... but, I do need to add more veggies to my day and I think I am going to eat a small plate of cold veggies along with my regular lunch most days in August!

3. Try and Finish Up July Goals (Paint the Hall Bathroom and Get Wedding Ring Inspected) - these are the 2 goals I didn't finish in July and I really need to paint the bathroom since I was sent a stencil to review for a blog collaboration. And, getting my wedding ring inspected won't be too difficult... it's the bathroom that I need to get going on. ;)

And, as for my July goals... the only goal I finished of the 3 was packing for Italy! I actually did really good with that and got it done several days before we left. Which... was good since our power went out the DAY before we left for Italy and didn't turn back on until we had left! Crazy! My poor husband was packing in the dark!

Also, my friend Lauren from Mom Home Guide is also sharing her August Goals tonight! Be sure to stop by to read more about her goals.

It's almost... National Cheesecake Day {yum}!!

Shari'sBerries_9_650
I don't think I realized that there was a day set aside for practically everything until social media hit big in my life. Most of these days are a blur on my Instagram reel... except, the ones that involve foods and drinks.

Psst. Did you know that July 30th is National Cheesecake Day?

Yes, yes it is... and by the photo above, you'll see I have my bar cart decked out for this special day, which falls on a Saturday this year!

Shari'sBerries_6
I decided to slice open one of these mini cheesecake trios just for your viewing pleasure. And, it's probably best I only eat half of one of these after over-indulging on my trip to Italy last week.

Shari'sBerries_7
That's why these trios are so great, they are perfect for sharing with friends and family over wine... maybe even some sparkly champagne. Or, a glass of cold milk. Whatever suits you.

Shari'sBerries_10
The bar cart all ready to go for National Cheesecake Day... oh, and don't worry... we won't run out of cheesecake. I have another trio set of cheesecakes waiting in the fridge. :)

Shari'sBerries_8
This trio comes with three 3" New York Cheesecakes dipped in dark chocolate with milk chocolate swizzles, dark chocolate with white chocolate shavings AND dark chocolate with nuts and marshmallows. The dark chocolate one with nuts and marshmallows was my absolute favorite, BUT... they were all REALLY good!

Shari'sBerries_4 Shari'sBerries_5
You just can't beat the quality of these New York cheesecakes.

Shari'sBerries_1
National Cheesecake Day is tomorrow, woohoo! Hope you don't forget to celebrate it, too!

Happy Thursday everyone and welcome back to Thursday Fashion Files! It is so great to be back after taking a little mini-blogging break while in Italy last week. I'm still trying hard to get caught up, especially with how busy it has been here with the kids in back to school mode (they go back in 2.5 weeks!).

While I was in Italy this sexy LBD came in the mail, c/o StyleWe and I can't wait to wear it again for a sunset dinner at the winery with my husband this weekend. I already have a ton of black dresses, but I really liked the cold shoulder style and simplicity of this one. I ordered this dress in a size small and WHEW it is a little tight and not as loose as it is in the photo shown on their site (see HERE). This may because I overindulged on the wine and all the carbs and pasta in Italy or it may just be that I should have checked the measurements better for this company and gone with a size medium. In any case, Mr. Curly Crafty Mom loves the extra tightness, so I declare this as the perfect date night dress. I went ultra-simple with it (because, that is just my jam) and styled it with my new Venice sun hat, simple jewelry that I recently received from a giveaway and black fringe sandals.

Easy Summer Picnic Dinner by Mom Home Guide

Lauren from Mom Home Guide is here to go a Guest Post about putting together an Easy Summer Picnic Dinner Today!
summer-picnic-dinner-mom-home-guide
I love picnic meals during the summer because I can use a variety of fruits, breads/crackers, meats and cheeses for our meal. For our picnic meals, I usually choose things that are easy to throw together. Today I’ll share a picnic dinner that I recently made for me and my daughters one night when my husband had to work late.

Ingredients
Sliced watermelon
Brie cheese
Monterey Jack cheese
Grapes
Crackers
Roasted Chick Peas (I purchased a “Korean BBQ” variety)
Hard Salami

This meal is easy to serve. To serve our picnic dinner, all I do is pile all the ingredients on one big plate. My kids are older (they just turned 13), so they can cut their cheeses and salami themselves. If you have younger children, you might want to cube the salami and cheese so your kids can just place a cube on a cracker to eat it.

My kids adore picnic dinners! It’s fun to have a variety of foods at meal time and to be able to pick and choose exactly what you want. I served iced tea – another family favorite – with this dinner.

fun-summer-picnic-lunch-mom-home-guide

Other Picnic Ingredients
There is a big variety of fun foods you could include in a picnic meal. These are a few options that you could consider:

Cut oranges or apples
Rolled up sandwich meats
Soft cheese spreads
Fresh bread
Bagels and cream cheese
Muffins
Pita bread and hummus
Olives
Baby carrots
Celery Sticks
Peanut Butter (for spreading on celery or carrot sticks or on crackers)
Deviled eggs
Melon balls
Fresh strawberries or other berries
Cookies, brownies or other dessert
Nuts
Guacamole
Corn Tortilla chips

Summer Fun
My daughters and I recently got new bikes, so I’m hoping to pack some picnic lunches (that will fit in our bicycle baskets) so we can go exploring together on our bicycles! We also have some really pretty hiking trails and parks near us, so I plan to pack some picnics for us for some summer fun together!

Do you have picnic favorites that you like to serve your family? Please share in the comments!

Mini 'I Spy' Mason Jars for an Outdoor Party #BackToPlay

This shop has been compensated by Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser. All opinions are mine alone. #BackToPlay #CollectiveBias Thank you Back to Nature Macaroni & Cheese for sponsoring this post. Try the new Back to Nature Made with Organic Macaroni & Cheese Dinners!

Outside1_650
Did you know that June was 'Get Outdoors Month' and Mac & Cheese day was July 14th? What better excuse than to get outdoors this month with the kids and make mealtime your playground! I decided to plan a fun lunch for the kids outside under our pergola and we all enjoyed Back to Nature Mac & Cheese and the kids played an 'I Spy' mason jar game! I share the tutorial on how to make this easy game with dry Mac & Cheese noodles below!

Outside3
I try to make the summer fun and exciting for my kids by planning a lot of outdoor activities when the weather is nice. One activity that my kids enjoy is eating lunch outside under our pergola. I thought it would be fun to not only eat lunch outside, but to play a game of 'I Spy', too! Prepping the game only took me 5 minutes, tops, and I share the instructions below. The Back to Nature Mac & Cheese didn't take me long to prepare and was creamy, cheesy and delicious!

Outside4 Outside5
I let the kids select what they wanted for lunch and my daughter wanted the Made with Organic Pasta Macaroni & Cheese Dinner and my son wanted the Made with Organic Pasta Crazy Bugs Macaroni & Cheese Dinner. It's great that Back to Nature Mac & Cheese offers a variety of noodle shapes to make lunchtime and/or dinner comforting, creative and fun! Also, how perfect are bug shaped noodles for a lunch outside?

Outside6 Outside7
The kids enjoying their cheesy and delicious treat with big smiles on their faces!

Outside8
Here's a candid photo of the kids during lunch. Bringing lunch outside and adding in a simple activity is always a way to make a day extra special!

Making Mini 'I Spy' Mason Jars
Now I will share with you how to make your own 'I Spy' Mason Jars!

I visited my local Target store to pick up Back to Nature Made with Organic Pasta Macaroni & Cheese Dinner, Back to Nature Made with Organic Pasta Silly Sea Life Macaroni & Cheese Dinner and Back to Nature Made with Organic Pasta Crazy Bugs Macaroni & Cheese Dinner. I found them in the boxed dinner section of the store. I also picked up two glass mason jars from their dollar area. I also picked up some little trinkets to put inside the 'I Spy' bottles.

MacCheese6
When I got home I set out all of the supplies on the table, so that I could get started on making the 'I Spy' jars. These would make great party favors, since they are inexpensive, quick to put together, fun and create great conversation!

MacCheese7 MacCheese8
To put the 'I Spy' jars together, just layer in the trinkets with some noodles. I didn't fill the noodles all the way to the top, since you'll want some extra room in the jar. That way everything will move around when you shake it.

Outside9
To play the game, I made two cards that listed what was inside each jar with a check box. You can easily type this up and print it out on your printer at home, or you can tell the kids how many items are in the jar and ask them to write all of the items down on a piece of paper. Whoever finishes first wins!

Outside10 Outside11
Here are the kids in action during the game. You can see they are checking off items on the card that they've found in the jars.

Outside1
I only made two 'I Spy' jars, since I was treating my kids to a special lunch, but you can make as many as you'd like! You could also use bigger jars, too.

MacCheese1
My kids love Back to Nature Mac & Cheese! It is cheesy, creamy, delicious and a variety of fun shapes. With summer activities and playdates, this gives us a convenient and quick meal option. It is also a good source of calcium and protein and doesn't contain any artificial flavors, preservatives or synthetic colors. It is non-GMO and made with organic pasta.

MacCheese5
Of course, I had to share a close up of all of these fun noodle shapes. What kid wouldn't love the variety that Back to Nature Mac & Cheese offers?

Welcome back to our DIY/Craft Link Up Party! Thank you for stopping by every week!

Today's Feature is Outdoor Wall Art by The Scrap Shoppe.

I like to share a little recap of my week at the start of each party:

Sorry I have been so absent on the blog lately and visiting y'all's blogs. We have had two almost back to back vacations and I'm recovering from the time change and catching up after our trip to Italy. I plan to dig back into the blog world this week after a nice break.

I plan to share 3 or 4 posts about our time in Italy. I may have to break Rome into 2 posts and then I'll do a post for Florence and Venice. It was the most amazing yet exhausting whirlwind of a trip. Italy will always hold a place in my heart.
