We are on Day 3 of 5 of the New York City vacation we took in June/July. If you missed my first post, you can find it HERE. Today’s post will be a little shorter, because we spent most of the day at the Statue of Liberty on Liberty Island and then we took a ferry over to Ellis Island to see the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Afterwards we went back to the hotel to rest a bit and then grabbed pizzas at Don Antonios, they have GREAT Italian pizza! We all wore 4th of July shirts/bottoms for our family photo by the Statue of Liberty. It was the week of the 4th of July, so I thought it’d be a fun photo!

We booked this tour through Viator and you can find it HERE. We met our tour guide in Battery Park at the Clinton Castle. This is a restored circular sandstone fort built from 1808 to 1811. It was the first American immigration station, predating Ellis Island.

Our tour guide had our ferry tickets for us, so we boarded and headed over to Liberty Island. There were snacks and drinks you could buy on the ferry. I get terrible motion sickness and forgot to take something, so I bought myself a Ginger Ale.

Upon entering Liberty Island you see a huge courtyard and a flag with the New York City skyline behind the flag.

Our tour guide was excellent at sharing all of the history of the island. And he had us sit in the shade, which was a bonus. He pointed out the Sculpture Garden with five statues honoring individuals involved in the Statue’s creation and fundraising. These statues depict: Frédéric-Auguste Bartholdi (the sculptor), Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel (the engineer), Édouard René de Laboulaye (who conceived the idea), Joseph Pulitzer (who spearheaded the fundraising campaign), and Emma Lazarus (the poet who wrote “The New Colossus”).

We did a boat cruise to see the Statue of Liberty on our last New York City vacation, but it was really neat going right on Liberty Island. You can walk around the entire statue and see every angle of her up close.

Our tour guide took a group photo, family photos and even this fun photo of Autumn.

There is nothing like the New York City skyline.

It was really neat to go into the Museum on Liberty Island and see the original torch.

Ok, I am embarrassed to admit this, but once we took the ferry over to Ellis Island… this is the only photo I took! The Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration was under MAJOR construction, so I didn’t take a photo of it. We did hit the gift shop and Autumn and I got some soft serve ice cream and a soft pretzel while the boys checked out the museum in more detail. It was a long, hot day!

We got back to the hotel and we were all tired! Thankfully, the reception hour was going and we grabbed some snacks. They had asian food, which was really good!

For dinner, we ordered pizzas from Don Antonio, an Italian pizzeria by our hotel. It was SO, so good! Highly recommend!
That’s a wrap on the third day, more to come… stay tuned! I’ll be back on Friday with my Friday Five for the month of July. Yes, it’s a 2 post week over here, once again!
