The kids had a day off school a few weeks back and we drove to my Grandpa’s old farm to spend the day with relatives. I hate admitting this, but I haven’t seen this side of my family in YEARS… It is only an hour away, but half of it is country roads and this city girl hates driving on them! Is that weird?! I’ll take a 6 lane highway over an unmarked country road any day. This is my grandpa’s farm, he passed away when Autumn was about 6 months old, so he would have been her great grandpa. This is my moms side of the family and her brother Dwight still lives in the farm house and runs the farm. The view is so peaceful out here, it just makes me want to sit and read a book outside.
Here is my uncle Dwight and the kids… it is sad to think they really didn’t know who he was when we got there. I mean, we talk about Dwight at home and my mom talks to them about him, too… so, they know who he is, but didn’t remember ever seeing him. My bad.
Uncle Dwight took both kids on a little tractor ride… Autumn has the HUGEST smile.
The red barn, so pretty
Nathan wanted to see the chickens… when I was little my mom let us hatch an egg in an incubator and we raised it till it was too big for our yard. My mom gave it to my grandpa and told me he wouldn’t take it to the soup factory… well, poor Chickie Little went to the soup factory… I found out about that when I was much older, but it made me so sad. 🙁
Nathan also wanted to see their old outhouse. LOL.
I am not sure why I let the kids roll around in the hay when they have so many allergy and asthma issues… but, you know what? They survived… and had lots of fun!
The house my mom grew up in… it has been renovated inside since then to make it bigger.
Then, we went over to my aunt Shirley’s house and the kids got to see a couple of their cousins… once again, they had no idea who they were… 🙁 but, they had fun getting to know them in the short time we were there. I am hoping to get the kids down to the farm a couple times a year, maybe next time we’ll go see Fort Chartres, I remember seeing that when I was a teen or young adult and loved it!
We also had lunch at this place… it is called Bean Tree Cafe and I had the best iced caramel coffee there.
Are you ready for the meal plan for this week?
Now, I didn’t take a photo of it… but, the Tortellini Slow Cooker dish that I made last week was SOOO dang good. So dang easy, too… you MUST make it! Click HERE for the recipe.
